Starting school is an exciting time for young children and their parents. It can be a daunting time, too. With preparation and encouragement, we provide the child with the opportunity to become school ready. - Encourage independence/confidence in
-Changing clothes
-Putting on shoes/coat
-Toileting
-Hand washing
-Meal times/eating
- Encourage sharing/turn taking
- Encourage communication (no interrupting) with adults and children
- Encourage sitting and listening, understanding and attention (story time)
- Practise writing their own name and letter sounds (starting with their own name)
- Practise naming shapes and colour recognition
- Choosing games
- Discussions about school/role play/read books about starting school
- Go to the school so the children see the outside, see the playground at play times so they can see and hear the children having fun
- Do practise school runs
- Have old uniform from the school so children can dress up.
